Letter: We've got a Bone to pick, Joe 3

二月 15, 2002

Remedial training for first-year students "arriving without the basics" despite record A-level results - a problem Cambridge University reported several years ago; a target of 50 per cent participation in "the higher education experience" despite widespread downsizing of middle-management posts in industry; vice-chancellors paid fantasy salaries, enough to "staff a university", despite growing debt for students and reduced standards of living for lecturers. Please, cannot someone join the dots, see the discrepancies, take the reins back from the accountants and consultants and find a solution while there is still something left to salvage?
