Higher education staff feel a kinship with the Pied Piper. The job is done. Access has improved, student participation has doubled. Despite a decrease in the unit of resource, quality standards in teaching and research have been maintained. Potential dropout rates have been curbed. No other sector in the economy has performed as well. It is time Westminster acknowledged the fact and rewarded it.
