Let us all speak freely

十二月 1, 2006

I agree with Peter Williams's (Letters, November 24) response to Geoffrey Alderman (Opinion, November 17). I cannot share Alderman's hope that the Quality Assurance Agency will become less "timid" and begin to "audit academic freedom". Please, QAA, don't regulate, codify, audit or tabulate our academic freedom.

Alderman has indeed exercised it vigorously as part of his ongoing critique of the structure and methodology of the QAA, which goes back some ten years in this publication alone.

This critique enlivened debate when he brought it to the American Intercontinental University in 2002, and I celebrate his right to continue it in the future.
