Theology must accept scientific fact, but most academic theologians presuppose Darwinian evolution in their discussions about creation. Like all great literature, Genesis i-iii can express profound truths without being taken literally. As with any scientific theory, evolution is subject to modification or rejection in the light of new data, but, with so much supporting evidence, evolution is likely to be subsumed by any new theory rather than being rejected.
