Homegrown peasants

六月 13, 2003

Alison Wolf praises what she calls the "peasants' revolt" at the London School of Economics that started the avalanche that buried the previous Quality Assurance Agency regime ( THES , May 30). But she finds it "truly depressing" that all five academics who proposed the motion for the LSE to withdraw from cooperation with the QAA had non-British backgrounds.

She may be less depressed to know that her data are at fault. I have not checked birth certificates, but at least two of the five are evidently from "here" - three if you allow Ireland to count. About par for the LSE course.
