Casting stones 2

一月 14, 2005

I was gratified at the space given to the responses to my article on sexism and sexual predators in higher education, particularly the letter urging all of us to take responsibility for addressing the culture that supports this behaviour.

Peter Leapman's letter, however, was more disturbing. It forsakes any effort to engage with my argument in favour of an irrelevant attack on my sexual identity, arguing that my academic opinions are invalidated by my own openly non-monogamous identity.

Would he dispute someone's right to a view because they were lesbian, socialist or Christian?

I was pleased to see, in the same issue, the celebration of the work of transsexual academic Stephen Whittle. I look forward to a day when polyamory achieves the same level of respect.
