Grenville Wall paints a disturbing contrast between the proper status of staff in an autonomous university and their present submission in his former (modern) institution ("Why I think the university press should print bad news and more staff comment", THES , April 19).
One can only pray that these conditions do not apply to the UK's ivory towers, but only to its tenement flats.
