Bill of wrongs 3

一月 23, 2004

Tony Dennis incorrectly implies (Letters, THE S, January 16) that I consider the government's proposed reform of higher education a completion of the "Thatcherite revolution".

I was asked ("Blair bets all on wooing rebels", THES , January 9) about perceptions of the bill as a historical milestone. I said some people perceive the granting of greater freedom to universities as a "denationalisation" of higher education, and discussed the reasons why higher education, in some way, escaped the "Thatcherite revolution". I did not say that this was my opinion or that this was the rationale underpinning the government's proposals.
