So, yet more articles in The Times Higher on animal experiments that give the views of the pro-vivisection lobby without reporting those of the pro-animal side ("Science fears attacks will rise with the Act" and "Freedom for many is tyranny for the few", September 10).
If they had been consulted, the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection or the National Anti-Vivisection Society would have given legitimate reasons for using freedom of information laws to request details of what goes on in laboratories.
They might also have pointed out that, given the proven unreliability of animal-based tests as predictors of human reactions, open access to clinical data is crucial if we are to determine whether resources should continue to go into animal experiments or should instead be diverted into the development and use of superior methods.
