Flames simply fail to radiate personality

Radiation Heat Transfer. First edition

三月 2, 2001

There are relatively few books available devoted solely to the subject of radiation heat transfer. However, a number of the better modern books covering all aspects of heat transfer have sections dealing with radiation that are comparable to Radiation Heat Transfer . The breadth of coverage of the subject is generally similar in such texts, although the majority do not include the subject of radiation from flames, which forms a whole chapter of H. R. N. Jones's book. On the other hand, many books include useful collections of questions for students and they also include significantly more extensive tabulations of data than are available in this text.

The above comparisons make it difficult to see many circumstances in which it would be appropriate to recommend the purchase of this book by undergraduate or postgraduate students in mechanical engineering, or even in chemical engineering. However, the clarity of presentation suggests that it would be useful to have in the library.

Robert Cheesewright is research fellow in systems engineering, Brunel University.
