This substantial text provides a solid introduction to the pragmatics of computer networking. It is practical, very hands-on and with enough of the background theory to make sure that network administration isn't reduced to a blindly trusting box-ticking exercise. There is plenty of good advice on the specification of network infrastructures and how to work through the inevitable compromises of design. Loads of screen shots from the various software environments help make the text immediately accessible. Wireless networking is only very lightly referred to, however, so you'll need to go elsewhere for an in-depth treatment of it.

Presentation: An easily interpreted book with lots of worked examples and a good balance between core concepts and real world detail.

Would you recommend it? Yes, but bear in mind the very limited discussion of wireless technologies.
