In John Boardman's review of two books on the Persian Empire ( Times Higher , November 25), a central phrase was omitted from the last sentence of the seventh paragraph, which should have read: "The most flattering account of the Persian character was given by Herodotus, almost as good as Darius' own of himself, copied verbatim by Xerxes." The Great king copied no Greek historian!
