This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a novel by a tax specialist and one of Alfred Hitchcock's favourite writers:

"I returned from the City about three o'clock on that May afternoon pretty well disgusted with life."

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is June 12.
