This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from an account of the big bang by an atheist physicist:

"The origin of the universe is explained in the Younger Edda , a collection of Norse myths compiled around 1220 by the Icelandic magnate Snorri Sturleson."

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is April 4.

The winner of last week's competition, who identified Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye, was P. W. John of Gilfach Goch, Mid Glamorgan.
