This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is froma novel by a 20th-century chronicler of the upper-middle class:

"I was sitting in the Guards' Chapel under the terra-cotta lunette which contains the Centurion saying to one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to his servant, Do this, and he doeth it."

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is May 11.
