This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a novel set in a leper colony:

"The cabin passenger wrote in his diary a parody of Descartes: 'I feel discomfort, therefore I am alive,' then sat pen in hand with no more to record."

The winner receives a £25 Blackwell's voucher and the closing date is March 12.
