七月 16, 1999

This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, comes from a work whose title is taken from the hebrew term for Beelzebub:

" The boy with the fair hair lowered himself down the last few feet of rock and began to pick his way towards the lagoon ."

The winner receives a £20 book token and the closing date is July 20.

Entries should be sent to

faxed to 0171-782 3300
or emailed to theschat@thes.co.uk

The winner of last week's competition, who correctly identified Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's , is David Statt of Bristol.
