First Impressions competition: 31 January 2008

This week’s competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a black satirical comedy on the media:

"It's hot as hell in Martirio, but the papers on the porch are icy with the news."

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is 7 February.

The winner of last week’s competition, who identified Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood, is Mark Curry of Cottingley in Leeds.
