The Environment: A Sociological Introduction

February 28, 2008

This is in every way an excellent textbook. It clearly describes the contribution that sociology makes to understanding environmental problems, using a historical perspective. It shows how people gain knowledge about the natural environment, how they transform it and how they take action to solve problems through social movements and green politics. The concepts of sustainable development, ecological modernisation and globalisation are covered in depth. Chapters end with a concise conclusion and suggested readings.

Who is it for? Undergraduates and all those who want an introductory text to environmental sociology.

Presentation: Excellent, very well written and laid out, and contains a glossary of sociological terms.

Would you recommend it? Yes, highly. It is very stimulating and leaves the desire to learn more.
