This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a novelist who originally trained as an architect:

"May in Ayemenem is a hot brooding month"

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is July 24.

The winner of last week's competition, who identified Jean-Jacques Rousseau's The Social Contract, is John Griffiths of Nottingham Trent University.
