This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a bestseller by a self-confessed 'biology watcher':

"We are told that the trouble with Modern Man is that he has been trying to detach himself from nature."

The winner of last week's competition, who identified H.G. Wells's A Short History of the World , was Richard Austen-Baker of Lancaster University Law School.
