First Impressions

This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a love story twice adapted for the opera:

"I must begin by taking my reader back to the time in my life when I first met the Chevalier Des Grieux."

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is March 30.

The winner of last week's competition, who identified Alexis de Tocqueville's Democracy in America , is Thomas Carl Lundberg of Keele University.
