First Impressions

This week's competition, in which you have to identify a book from its opening sentence, is from a fiction by an extremely versatile and prolific writer:

"It was about the beginning of September 1664, that I, amongst the rest of me neighbours, heard, in ordinary discourse, that the plague was returned again in Holland."

The winner receives a £25 book voucher. The closing date is December 29.
