The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2021 use the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, but they are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions.

The universities are judged across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.

China is home to the continent’s top two universities for the second consecutive year, with Tsinghua and Peking universities holding on to first and second place, respectively.

Japan is the most-represented nation again this year, with 116 institutions, up from 110 last year. Japan has also achieved its best performance in six years; it is home to two of the top 10 universities in Asia for the first time since 2015.

The 2021 ranking includes 551 universities from 30 territories.
