ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences is a leading Swiss institution offering teaching, research, and continuing education with a strong focus on practical and science-based approaches.

The university's main campus is located in Winterthur, a city in the canton of Zurich in northern Switzerland. Winterthur is the country's sixth-largest city by population and is situated approximately 20km northeast of Zurich. While the official language is German, the local spoken language is the Alemannic Swiss German dialect, Zurich German.

ZHAW has two additional campuses in Zurich and Wädenswil.

The university comprises eight academic schools: applied linguistics, applied psychology, architecture, design, and civil engineering, health sciences, life sciences and facility management, engineering, management and law, and social work. Within each school, various institutes and departments offer a wide range of degree programmes at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

To facilitate academic and scientific exchanges, ZHAW has established partnerships with higher education institutions worldwide, including the University of Technology, Sydney in Australia, the University of Helsinki in Finland, and the Corvinus University of Budapest in Hungary.

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.  The primary responsibility of this role is to support and contribute to an industry innovation research project. The Research Engineer will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and the research team to develop deep learning-based computer vision algorithms and software for object detection, classification, and segmentation. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project together with the PI, Co-PI, and research team to ensure timely achievement of project deliverables. Undertake the following specific responsibilities in the project: i. Develop, train, and optimise deep learning models for object detection, classification, and segmentation using real-world datasets. ii. Design and implement software modules to integrate the models into a working system prototype. iii. Perform data annotation. iv. Conduct experiments, analyse results, and iterate models for improved accuracy and efficiency. v. Prepare project documentation, technical reports, and academic publications. vi. Collaborate with industry partners and contribute to technology transfer efforts. Job Requirements 1. Possess strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in: Deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) Deep learning models (e.g., YOLO, U-Net, EfficientNet, ResNet, FPN, Fast R-CNN) Computer vision techniques and algorithms Python and relevant libraries (e.g., PyQt, OpenCV, NumPy, scikit-learn), particularly for developing Windows desktop application software incorporating deep learning models 2. Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic/Software Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s or PhD degree in relevant areas will be advantageous. 3. The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR / OF ANTHROPOLOGY  The successful applicant may be appointed to a permanent professorship or a fixed-term associate/assistant professorship (tenure track system), depending on his/her qualifications and career stage. Further information on the UH tenure track system on the webpage. JOB DESCRIPTION Applicants should demonstrate a capacity to contribute to anthropological scholarship at the highest level. Social and Cultural Anthropology at UH has a strong research environment for political economy, ethics and morality, cognitive anthropology, environment and sustainability, location and borders, and linguistic anthropology. Thematic specialisation for this position is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates specialising in political and environmental questions. Anthropology at UH is known for its diverse regional expertise and emphasis on ethnographic research. We are looking for candidates with strong regional expertise grounded in extensive ethnographic research. All regional specializations are welcome, consideration will be given to how a candidate’s expertise complements and enriches the regional profile of the current faculty, which can be found here. The successful candidate will conduct internationally recognised research and contribute to teaching at all levels in the relevant degree programmes. An appointee to the position of assistant/associate professor in the tenure track system shall hold a doctoral degree and have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work as well as the teaching skills required for the position. In addition, the appointee shall have the capacity and potential to pursue an academic career at a high level, as demonstrated by publications and other means.  In assessing the applicants’ qualifications, attention shall be paid to scientific publications and research, teaching experience and qualifications, international experience and collaborations, and success in the acquisition of external research funding. An appointee to the position of professor shall hold a doctoral degree and have high-level academic qualifications; experience in leading scientific research; the ability to provide research-based teaching and supervise dissertations and theses; as well as evidence of international cooperation in the research field they represent. The appointee shall also have academic leadership skills. When considering the applicant’s qualifications, attention shall be given to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce teaching material, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a demonstration of teaching skills as well as the applicant’s participation in doctoral education.
