Founded in 1911, Yildiz Technical University is one of the oldest and most notorious universities in Turkey. Based in Istanbul, the university resulted from the merging of Istanbul State Engineering and Architectural Academy with Kocaeli State Engineering and Architecture Academy and the Kocaeli vocational school.
Focused on engineering, YTU offers courses in naval architecture and marine engineering, chemical and metallurgical engineering, mechanical and civil engineering, as well as education, art and design, electronics, economics and administration, arts and sciences, architecture.
The main campus is in the Beșiktaș area, while the new Davutpașa campus is based in the Esenler area. Istanbul is a city with rich culture and history offering a huge amount to do for prospective students. Its architecture, cuisine, football, bars, tea gardens, coffee houses, taverns and restaurants have made Istanbul.
Notable alumni include Turkish actors Ahu Türkpençe, Murat Yıldırım and Kenan İmirzalıoğlu, businessman and president of sports club Beșiktaș JK Fikret Orman, Turkish pianist Ayşegül Abadan, and president of the Turkish Football Federation Hasan Doğan.
