Work that matters The research associate will work collaboratively with colleagues to collect research data from sites across South Australia, to coordinate data collection across Australia. Working alongside senior researchers, the research associate will be responsible for collating large data sets, organising and analysing data sets and assisting with report writing. Where appropriate they will also be required to assist in the development of extension materials. This position will contribute to advancing sheep production research that supports industry innovation and sustainability, delivering meaningful outcomes for producers and the wider agricultural sector. The work will involve the development of methodologies and experimental systems to make energised artificial lipid bilayer membranes compatible with high resolution optical microscopy for the study of single molecular motors. The post is funded by the NovoNordisk Foundation Synergy Programme and the successful candidate will be expected to work closely with partners, particularly with the University of Oxford. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualification and experience in a relevant physical/engineering science. The candidates must possess detailed knowledge and experience in Biophysics and/or BioNanotechnology. The successful candidate will be a good communicator and will be expected to take the lead in preparing reports, presenting results to the consortium and writing research papers. You will spearhead experimental campaigns to evaluate process stability and material integrity, pioneering novel material combinations such as metal-metal composites and metal-composite joining techniques. By collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to push the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing, you will integrate process digitalisation with rigorous experimental design. Key responsibilities involve the manufacture of high-quality specimens for characterisation by research partners and the systematic analysis of experimental data to establish fundamental correlations between process parameters, microstructures, and mechanical properties. Ultimately, this work aims to refine DEDAM processes to ensure that fabricated components are meticulously optimised for specific mechanical load scenarios, with a particular interest in candidates capable of implementing advanced monitoring and automation frameworks to enhance system integration and data-driven insights. About You You will hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field. You must have demonstrable relevant experience and achievements in process development and material characterisation. You will also possess proven knowledge of monitoring and control system development within the metal AM process. In addition, you will have a developing track record of publishing in high-quality journals, along with excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills, and a proven ability for problem-solving. You will also require Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). This position sits within the Neuroscience research theme, which focuses on understanding the structure and function of the nervous system and the mechanisms underlying neurological disorders. Our research integrates cellular and molecular biology, genomics, neuroimaging, and anatomical, physiological, and pharmacological approaches in human and animal models. Our goal is to translate basic and clinical neuroscience discoveries into new therapies and clinical applications that improve health and well-being. Key focus areas include neurodevelopmental, neurocognitive, and neuropsychiatric disorders, movement disorders, neuroinflammatory conditions, headache, pain, and spinal cord injury.
