The Division seeks a visionary Dean able to lead a distinguished and diverse faculty engaged in research in emerging technology breakthroughs in robotics, cyber-security, smart cities, bioengineering, energy and environmental sustainability. The next Dean will have a record of design and innovation, fostering environments that produce high quality research that responds in powerful and multidisciplinary ways to vital global and local challenges. The centre is made up of 27 research units, staffed by around 200 researchers and 100 students. The Youth Mental Health and Technology team puts young people at the centre of their own care. We partner with health services to develop innovative treatments for those aged 12-25 with emerging mental health disorders. The integration of cutting-edge research with safe and effective clinical care enables us too quickly and effectively translate our research findings into clinical services, facilitating continuous improvements to mental health services for the benefit of young people in Australia. We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our team and contribute to clinical trials and cohort studies of national significance for youth mental health. This position will be responsible for providing relevant support to the Brain and Mind Centre's Youth Mental Health and Technology team. This includes supporting the management and delivery of a health services clinical trials and cohort studies, preparing relevant educational materials, performing fundamental aspects of clinical research work, working with clinicians, academics, and youth mental health service providers, and contributing to the efficient operation of the research work area by providing essential research support. Your key responsibilities will be to: recruiting study participants, liaising with potential participants, their clinicians and services, where appropriate conducting diagnostic interviews with participants using multiple standardised clinical assessment instruments, always adhering to research protocol liaising and communicating with clinical staff (such as psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, nurses, youth workers), as well as research staff located on-site facilitate referrals into research studies and other forms of continuing care and conduct clinical/research programs as required coordinating the collection of data, including assisting other research staff with data entry and analysis assisting in presentations to clinical staff and other services to promote and provide information about the research studies assisting with the preparation of publications arising from the study ability to work outside of normal business hours on occasion and travel to the trial sites as necessary. About you undertaking a PhD or has completed an Honors year in psychology or a relevant field demonstrated experience in face-to-face patient interaction, with a focus on mental health outcomes familiar with the administrative requirements of supporting research activities possess strong attention to detail and a focus on quality when working with data experience in supporting clinical trials is highly desirable. The professorship of nuclear power engineering is located at the Department of Energy Technology of the LUT School of Energy Systems (LES). The position is based in Lappeenranta, Finland. The professorship focuses on engineering of nuclear power generation for electricity, heat, and chemicals. LUT University’s Nuclear Engineering Laboratory has extensive capabilities for nuclear thermal-hydraulic experimentation and analysis, including advanced measurement technologies and data processing, modern computational facilities, and coupled code development for the modelling of coupled reactor physics – thermal hydraulic – fuel behaviour problems. The university has made significant investments in these experimental capabilities, and the laboratory has a robust mix of ongoing academic and contract research with strong prospects for continuation. The professorship’s field of research includes the following: thermal hydraulics experimentation and/or modelling nuclear power plant engineering, including commercial-scale and/or modular nuclear reactors nuclear energy conversion process modelling, design, and optimisation nuclear safety analysis methodologies The main application areas: safe and economic operation of current industrial-scale nuclear power plants resolving emerging issues related to availability or safety deployment of novel nuclear technologies beyond the current state of the art The person appointed to the professorship must present strong research achievements in at least one of the research fields and application areas above and is expected to lead and oversee a high-level academic research group. Your field of activity: The successful candidate will work with colleagues in the Marine Ecology group led by Frank Melzner and a larger network of European scientists to understand genomic targets of selection to heat stress in mytilid mussels. The research aims to better understand, whether heat resistant populations already populate European coasts (from Portugal to the Arctic) in microhabitats characterized by higher average temperatures. Ultimately, the work will contribute to assessing the potential of mussel populations to track climate change velocity along European coasts, with implications for coastal zone management and environmental conservation. The successful candidate will closely cooperate with ecologists and physiologists, so that heat resistant genotypes can be phenotyped in detail and is expected to participate in field sampling expeditions. The successful candidate is expected to raise external funding and contribute to teaching & will be given enough time and freedom to develop her/his own research profile. Ideally, the successful candidate will generate ideas and preliminary work to support an application for an Austrian FWF Astra award or European ERC grant. Your future tasks: Active participation in research and teaching, which means: You analyze genomes of mytilid mussels and identify targets of heat selection You cooperate with physiologists and ecologists to link phenotypes and biotic interactions in the field to genotypes You participate in field sampling campaigns You lead and participate in scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international meetings.
