The Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI (PAI) is seeking to appoint a Lecture in Inclusive Design with experience in Inclusive Design research to deliver training and embed inclusive practice in the UKRI-funded Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in AI for Digital Media Inclusion. This new role is central to training the next generation of PhD researchers who will develop responsible and inclusive AI technologies for the digital media industries. As Lecturer in Inclusion Design you will join the pan-University PAI Institute as part of the CDT, responsible for leading CDT training and research programmes in Inclusive Design and Responsible AI. Expertise and experience in inclusive design training and research is essential to the role. The post holder will lead the design, development and delivery of the CDT Inclusive Design training programme, support CDT PhD research and embed Inclusion and Responsible AI principles throughout the CDT. The post holder is expected to publish high-quality original research, develop a portfolio of research funding and contribute to PAI, Faculty and University teaching and research activities. The post holder will also supervise and advise PAI and CDT PhD researchers. We’re looking for someone who: Thrives in complex, cross-institutional environments. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The Research Fellow / Engineer (Building-Grid Interaction Design) will contribute to a two-year applied research project funded by the BCA, focusing on the development of a power grid interactive building or cluster of buildings. The role involves designing and implementing monitoring, visualization and control system to coordinate multiple energy sources including battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, and diesel generators, and dynamically interacting with building management system to shed signficant loads under varying operating conditions. The research staff will develop, simulate, and test controller logic using MATLAB/Simulink or similar environments, analyse performance across diverse scenarios, and document results for technical reporting. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in modern facilities management, mechanical and electrical engineering and energy efficiency management.  Key Responsibilities Participate in the research project to design a microgrid controller for grid interactive building applications. Develop control algorithms for dynamic master selection, coordinating BESS, PV, diesel generators, and other sources. Implement predictive, rule-based, or optimisation-based control strategies using MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or embedded software tools. Integrate controller logic with the microgrid model and validate performance under different simulated conditions. Conduct testing of control strategies under various operating conditions such as extreme weather, load variation, equipment failure and deployment constraints. Prepare documentation, flowcharts, control logic diagrams, and controller specifications for the final report. Assist with procurement of software licences and technical equipment. Conduct Risk Assessments and ensure compliance with WSH regulations. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Work independently and collaboratively to maintain research software and project tools. To communicate and liaise with any internal and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field from a recognised university. Strong programming skills in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, or similar environments. Understanding of control systems, power electronics, or energy management strategies. Experience in microgrid controller design is advantageous. Familiarity with BESS control strategies, SOC management, or optimisation algorithms preferred. Support supervision of capstone project students involved in the project. Ability to implement and test algorithmic logic using simulation tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills. Excellent technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Our Post and Portering team are responsible for several tasks that contribute to the smooth running of the University. We operate the post room, goods in, delivery services, Portering and undertaking duties that are required to allow the University to operate which includes Lifting and Shifting items between different locations across the University Campus’. We work with online booking systems to ensure a timely and effective service to our colleagues and students across the University community. About the Role Forming part of a hardworking and supportive team who mentor each other to maximise the skills available within the team, this role is Integral in the delivery of an efficient Postal, Portering and Goods-In service. The role is responsible for operating computerised systems including but not limited to Franking machines, handheld devices, desk top PCs and Inputting any required data accurately onto our online systems. Receiving goods in and routing them to the correct location within the agreed timescales, delivering items, moving heavy items between buildings and sites, and booking couriers are just some of the tasks this varied role involves. The working hours are 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am-4pm. About You You will have some experience of working in a similar role ideally using relevant computerised systems. You will be a strong team player with the ability to use your initiative and problem solve when required and demonstrate the ability to provide excellent customer service. You will have a basic understanding of safe working practices including manual handling and be able to drive vehicles of various types and sizes up to but NOT including HGV.
