Description The Haven Lab, in the Division of Engineering and the Center for Cyber Security, New York University Abu Dhabi, invites applications for a Post-doctoral Associate position in security and privacy. The lab's mission is to provide individuals with control over their privacy and protection from digital threats. We want to work towards a future where digital services are inherently designed with user privacy and safety at the forefront. Current research thrusts involve: Large-scale measurements on the web to understand and characterize harmful online phenomena. Development of AI-based countermeasures for security and privacy, especially in on-device settings. Investigation of attacks/defenses on AI-based systems. Key Responsibilities: Contribute to driving and developing the lab's research directions and methodologies. Lead and collaborate on high-impact research projects in applied security and privacy. Mentor Ph.D./Master's/Bachelor’s students, providing guidance on research projects. Participate in developing coursework and organizing academic and community outreach events. Engage with academic and industry partners to advance the lab's research goals. Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, with a focus on security, privacy, or applied machine learning, and with less than 5 years post receipt of PhD. Demonstrated research experience in at least one of the lab’s research thrusts. Good programming and analytical skills, and willingness to work with new technologies/systems. General Requirements The department is interested in hiring a new Assistant Professor in ethics (broadly understood to include value theory, normative ethics, metaethics, and applied ethics) or in philosophy of AI. Candidates should have obtained, or be about to be awarded, a PhD in Philosophy, and possess a strong track record of publications in the top journals in the field. Candidates without publications will not be considered. The appointee is expected to produce internationally excellent research and obtain competitively awarded research grants. Teaching experience at the undergraduate or taught master’s level will be an advantage. The appointee is also expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and to design and offer courses in their area of expertise. Description The Clinical Artificial Intelligence Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks to improve patient care by developing new machine learning methodologies that tackle unique computational problems in healthcare applications. We use large real-world complex datasets, including data extracted from electronic health records and medical images, for applications pertaining to patient diagnostics and prognostics. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the team and make significant contributions to the field. The researcher is expected to have (i) strong machine learning skills to improve model performance and robustness, and (ii) exemplary passion and motivation to pursue multidisciplinary research at the intersection of computing and healthcare. Methodologies of interest include: multi-modal learning, foundation models, including large language models, agentic AI, multi-agent AI systems, transfer learning, self-supervised learning, and federated learning. The Postdoctoral Researcher will be primarily based at NYU Abu Dhabi. The researcher will report directly to Dr. Farah Shamout and work in close collaboration with other researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate research assistants. The researcher will engage with our regular collaborators across the NYU campuses and local medical institutions in the UAE. Key Responsibilities Research Support the supervisor in developing and implementing the research agenda; Conduct high-quality and innovative research primarily focused on ML methodology development for healthcare; Generate new high-impact ideas based on gaps and limitations of the state-of-the-art (SOTA); Design and implement experiments to compare proposed work with SOTA baselines; Publish research findings in high-impact journals and conferences; Communicate and present research findings at international academic gatherings; Create, maintain, and document high-quality research code for reproducibility; Maintain good practice in managing and accessing sensitive medical datasets; Assist the supervisor in the preparation of grant applications (as appropriate); And collaborate with scientists within the NYU Global Network and in Abu Dhabi.
