Work that matters The Cisco Research Chair in AI Cybersecurity provides academic leadership in the development and delivery of a high-impact research program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Cybersecurity. The position operates within the Australian Defence Technologies Academy (ADTA) and strengthens the University’s research capability, industry engagement and external profile, with a particular focus on Defence and other nationally significant sectors. The Chair leads the design and management of a portfolio of research projects, builds interdisciplinary collaborations, attracts competitive funding and industry sponsorship, and contributes to learning, teaching and community engagement. The role also works closely with Cisco and other external stakeholders to develop real-world-inspired research, proof-of-concept activity, publications, and new partnership models that support long-term research growth and impact. The role also contributes to the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN), a collaborative network that brings together industry, universities and government to accelerate innovation and digitisation. The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT; www.mavt.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position at the tenure-track assistant professor or associate/full professor level. The new professor will contribute to D-MAVT’s global reputation by performing original and relevant research in the field of energy conversion and storage across scales, driven by fundamental challenges and with the aim of resulting in technologies for societally relevant applications. She/he is expected to establish an experimental program focused on scalable technologies to convert and/or store energy. Decarbonizing our energy system calls for new versatile technologies for converting and storing different forms of energy. The development of these technologies requires significant advances at the fundamental level. Translating these advances into cost-efficient and sustainable technologies at a global scale requires a pragmatic and visionary engineering approach. The research activities of the new professor should therefore be situated within the broad area of energy conversion and storage. Examples of potential areas include, but are not limited to, synthetic fuels, CO2 capture and conversion, power-to-x technologies, and renewable energy systems. Successful candidates should showcase the ability to turn fundamental advances into innovative practical technologies. They should also exhibit the capacity to evolve their research activities over the course of their career, supported by a solid foundation in fundamental principles of mechanical and process engineering. Successful candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent in engineering or a related field and have an outstanding international track record of accomplishments in the fields outlined above, either in academia or industry. Depending on the level of appointment, they are expected to teach Master’s-level courses related to energy conversion and storage, as well as the underlying fundamentals in mechanical and process engineering on the Bachelor level, such as thermodynamics. In general, at ETH Zurich, undergraduate-level courses are taught in German or English, and graduate-level courses are taught in English. This project aims to develop next-generation AI technologies for concept-driven video understanding from consumer-recorded facial care videos. Unlike conventional action recognition, the research focuses on understanding high-level semantic concepts, behavioural patterns, product usage, and skincare routines through advanced Vision AI, Multimodal AI, and Foundation Models. The successful candidate will work closely with researchers from SNAIC, NVIDIA, and P&G to develop novel AI methodologies with direct industrial impact. Responsibilities The successful candidate will: Conduct cutting-edge research in Computer Vision, Video Understanding, and Multimodal AI. Design AI models for concept-driven video understanding of consumer facial care behaviours.
