The Warsaw University of Technology dates back to the early 19th century, when technical schools – related to engineering, military technology and mining – were first established in Poland. The Preparatory School for the Polytechnic Institute was founded in Warsaw by Stanislaw Staszic, and this became the Warsaw University of Technology in 1915, with the faculties of Architecture, Machine Design and Electrical Engineering.
Today, it is one of the largest technical institutes in Central Europe with 19 faculties – including Automotive and Construction Machinery Engineering, Electronics and Information Technology and Mechatronics – and one college, nearly 35,000 students and more than 2,000 academic teachers. The most popular fields of study in 2015 were geoinformatics, automatic control and robots, and biomedical engineering. The top three areas of study for employers were computer science, administration and management.
The university aims to anticipate what the future might be in terms of economic and cultural conditions by having a clear understanding of the present, and to come up with technological solutions to whatever problems may arise. To this end it places a strong emphasis on research, community between teachers and students, and academic freedom. In 2015, the university conducted more than 500 national and international research projects, with the intention of understanding the fast-changing and increasingly complex world.

Scientists at the SGDP lead some of the UK’s foremost longitudinal cohort and twin studies including TEDS, eRISK, Dunedin, IMAGEN and GLAD. We are recruiting a highly motivated professional to support the delivery of the large-scale Genetic Links to Anxiety and Depression Mental Health Goals programme (GLAD MHG) and associated projects within the NIHR Bioresource Centre Maudsley, working closely with Professor Gerome Breen. About the role The Deputy Research Coordinator will lead day-to-day laboratory operations and biosample logistics for GLAD-MHG: establish site readiness, oversee sample flows from collection to accessioning, embed ISO 17025-aligned quality practices, and drive continual improvements in throughput, cost, and auditability. Prof. Breen’s team boasts ambitious and accomplished portfolio of clinical and genetic studies which aim to improve treatment and outcomes for those affected by anxiety, depression, eating disorders and other mental health conditions. Despite being a leading cause of disability worldwide, Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is an underserved market segment with significant unmet medical need, GLAD MHG will leverage proven success and substantial investment from KCL, the NIHR Maudsley BRC, and NIHR BioResource in the GLAD study to create a trial-ready dataset integrating detailed phenotyping, multi-omics, and medical records to support MDD precision psychiatry. The role requires a skilled operational manager, with the ability to forge effective working relationships with collaborators and interdisciplinary academic teams working on related MHG workstreams. We design and deliver trials and related research, including coordination, monitoring, data acquisition and management, and statistical analysis. Our health economics, biostatistics, systematic reviews, and biomarker teams work with trial data to inform healthcare providers about best practices. The Clinical Trials Program Manager plays a pivotal leadership role within the CTC, providing strategic, operational and managerial oversight of complex clinical trials across their directed area of responsibility. Working under broad direction from the Associate Director, Clinical Trial Operations, this role oversees the design, establishment and delivery of clinical trials, ensuring the highest standards of quality, compliance, governance and performance are maintained. In this position, you will work on a project funded by the Research Council of Finland to build a machine learning tool for predicting the atomic structure of surfaces. You will work under the supervision of the project leader, Academy Research Fellow Dr. Ondřej Krejčí, and collaborate with international experts in materials and surface science. Together, you will help advance this key scientific discipline, which directly impacts such important technological and societal topics as semiconductor devices and heterogeneous catalysis for green fuel production. You will be fully integrated within the DAS group, a vibrant and diverse research environment whose core expertise is the development of machine-learning-infused atomistic modeling techniques beyond the state of the art and their application to study important problems in chemistry, physics and materials science. The group has access to state-of-the-art supercomputing facilities (like LUMI) and is very well integrated within the scientific community internationally. Your role and goals You will develop data-driven and machine learning workflows for predicting how atoms rearrange on the surface of materials such as metal oxides and semiconductors. Knowledge of the precise atomic structure is important for understanding and predicting electronic and catalytic properties and thus to engineer the material surfaces better for their technological usage. For training the machine learning models, you will generate datasets from electronic structure theory calculations. You will manage large-scale simulations run on world-class supercomputing facilities alongside AI algorithms and data analytics tools. You will also discuss tool development with AI and machine learning experts at Aalto University and share your results with experimental collaborators.
