Description

The Water Research Center (WRC) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking to recruit a highly motivated Research Scientist to work on advanced membrane technologies for desalination. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professor Raed Hashaikeh. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research on functional membrane development at both bench and pilot scales. Applicants with a strong background in membrane science, materials, and desalination are encouraged to apply. Terms of employment include a competitive salary and benefits.

The research focuses on the development of advanced functional materials and processes for sustainable water treatment and desalination. This research is conducted within the Water Research Center (WRC) at NYUAD and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams across mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, and physics. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and will contribute to projects spanning fundamental materials development to applied pilot-scale systems.

Responsibilities of the position include conducting experimental and/or analytical research on membrane-based desalination technologies (e.g., reverse osmosis, forward osmosis, nanofiltration, membrane distillation), developing novel functional materials, designing and executing lab and field studies, analyzing and interpreting data, contributing to publications and patents, and presenting research findings at meetings and conferences. The candidate will also collaborate with local and international research partners and may participate in limited teaching or mentoring activities.

Candidate Qualification and Experience Requirements

Candidates must hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field, with at least 6 years of relevant experience in their field (not including the years obtaining the PhD). The ideal candidate will have a strong publication record, including first-author papers, and demonstrated experience in membrane fabrication and characterization. Familiarity with analytical techniques such as XRD, TGA, DSC, DMA, BET, and porometry is highly desirable. Background in analytical or organic chemistry is an asset. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Candidates will contribute to industry-relevant research in embodied AI, simulation and digital twins, cybersecurity, robot operations and related areas, with a strong emphasis on translation into real-world applications. Through collaborations with leading robot companies and end-users, faculty will help solve practical deployment challenges, build shared digital infrastructure, and train the next generation of robotics talent for Singapore’s future economy.

Responsibilities:


	Lead and contribute to applied research projects with industry partners and government agencies.
	Develop and teach Robotics and Embodied AI courses within the cluster’s programmes and across relevant interdisciplinary modules.
	Supervise Industry Doctorate/Masters and capstone projects in collaboration with domain faculty and industry partners.
	Contribute to SIT’s continuing education offerings.
	Serve as embodied AI mentor for existing SIT domain faculty through joint projects and co-supervision mechanisms.


Qualifications:


	PhD in Robotics, Mechanical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant domain with demonstrated embodied AI research experience. Equivalent industry experience may also be considered.

		State Estimation, Perception and Sensor Fusion: 3D scene understanding, diagnostics, active and manipulation-centric perception
		System Integration, Deployment & RobotOps: ROS2 systems integration, runtime robustness, safety and field deployment engineering
		Swarm Robotics & Multi-Agent Systems: Decentralised coordination, shared mapping and resilient communications
		Fleet Management & Remote Operations: Mission control, tele-operation, network resilience and lifecycle operations
		Cyber-Physical Security & Trustworthy Robotics: Threat modelling, resilience, incident response, AI ethics and data privacy
	
	
	Experience applying embodied AI to real-world use areas will be advantageous, such as (non-exhaustive):

Description

The Water Research Center at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a post-doctoral associate to work on "Application of Membrane Desalination to Treat Water from UAE Feed Sources," under the supervision of Professor Nidal Hilal, Director of the Water Research Center and Global Professor of Engineering and Professor Raed Hashaikeh, Professor of Mechanical Engineering.

The successful applicant will lead an innovative project focused on developing advanced, high-flux membrane technologies tailored to the unique and extreme water conditions of the Arabian Gulf. He/she will tackle challenges related to high salinity (up to 47,000 ppm) and severe biological fouling, driving innovations in high-pressure Reverse Osmosis (RO) processes.

The role involves characterizing local seawater and desalination brine to inform targeted membrane design, as well as advanced membrane fabrication techniques utilizing electrospinning, phase inversion, and additive manufacturing. The researcher will also develop robust pretreatment processes (MF, UF, NF) to protect systems against harsh regional challenges, including harmful algal blooms. Experimental and theoretical investigations of mass transport, compaction, and energy efficiency will be performed to optimize desalination processes for regional sustainability.

The successful applicant will oversee projects, develop extensive technical expertise, and implement innovative solutions. He/she will contribute to the development of novel concepts and proposal writing, while efficiently addressing complex challenges. Responsibilities will include writing reports, authoring publications, drafting patents, and presenting results at conferences. The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated knowledge of membrane fabrication, characterization, and separation processes. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and exceptional verbal and written communication abilities are essential. The candidate should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team.

Applicants must have a PhD, or equivalent advanced or terminal degree from a recognized institution of higher learning, in materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, or related field, with no more than 5 years post receipt of the PhD. Excellent experimental and analytical skills relevant to the project are required. Candidates with a demonstrated history of peer-reviewed publications in a related area, along with prior expertise in materials science and analytical chemistry will be preferred.

This position will begin in September 2026, as a two-year contract, renewable depending on performance. The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. The Department of Behavioral and Cognitive Biology is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in the research group of Prof. Narly Golestani. Applicants should have a strong interest and track record of research expertise in the cognitive neuroscience of language, multilingualism and spatial cognition, including entorhinal cortex based spatial grids and cognitive maps. The ideal candidate holds a degree in Biomedical Engineering, with a PhD in Natural Sciences/Life Sciences and a dissertation field of Biology. Experience in advanced analysis of fMRI (specifically, analysis of grid-like responses in the entorhinal cortex, resting state connectivity, Neuroimaging pipelines (SPM-Toolbox, FSL, Freesurfer, fMRIPrep, CONN-Toolbox) and of structural MRI data is required.
