Founded in 1477, the historic Uppsala University was the first to be founded within both Sweden and the whole of Scandinavia.

Now ranked among the best research universities in the world, Uppsala comprises nine faculties and over 45,000 students, 12% of which are international. It boasts strong strategic links with other global universities and runs exchange programmes with approximately 500 universities worldwide.

Most undergraduate degrees at the university are taught in Swedish, although a few courses, mainly at postgraduate level, are taught in English.

Uppsala is a multi-campus university with sites that include the Biomedical Centre, one of Europe’s largest for life sciences, located on an old military base, and another on the island of Gotland, a UNESCO World Heritage site and popular Swedish holiday destination with miles of pristine beaches.

The university’s long history has given rise to a multitude of prominent scholars, including Carl Linnaeus, an 18th century Uppsala professor who created the system for classifying nature that’s still in use today, and Anders Celsius, an astronomy professor, who devised the Celsius temperature scale.

Eight Nobel Prize winners are associated with the university in total and its alumni include the IT entrepreneur Niklas Zennström, best known for founding Skype.

Uppsala is also famous for housing unique collections of cultural, artistic and scientific interest. Its various museums, including the Museum of Evolution and the Museum Gustavianum, situated in the university's oldest building, include artefacts dating back as far as the Viking period. 

The university’s library is the largest in Sweden and its botanical gardens, which preserve an authentic 18th century environment, are the country’s oldest.

Uppsala itself is the fourth largest city in Sweden and a major cultural centre that blends tradition with modernity.

As a major historical landmark, Uppsala university is commonly referenced in Swedish literature and makes an appearance in many films, including Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Start date: 1st October 2026 Duration: 4 years Extent: 30 hours/week (0.75 FTE) About the project: RE-SECURE – Remaking Security: Technopolitics in the Global East explores how expertise developed under past political regimes can be renegotiated and adapted for new security purposes. Focusing on Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) as a region marked by profound political transformations from the Cold War to the present, the project rethinks the study of security by theorizing how ways of “doing security” are shaped by history, technology, and global connections. The project will examine both the symbolic and material dimensions of remaking security, while combining desk research, archival work, and field research. By analysing how technoscientific practices interact with societal understandings of risk and global politics, RE-SECURE will develop an original, historically grounded, and decentered perspective on security from the perspective of the “Global East.” Your future tasks: As a doctoral researcher, you will develop your own dissertation project within the framework of RE-SECURE while contributing actively to the collaborative research agenda. Your responsibilities include: Building an independent research profile in sociology of security Developing and conducting a case study on science diplomacy in Austria Planning and executing qualitative empirical research (combining interviews, document analysis, and archival research) Contributing to comparative and conceptual work across the project’s case studies Publishing and presenting research results nationally and internationally Participating in project meetings, workshops, and research activities of the department Contributing to literature reviews, conceptual development, and joint publications of the RE-SECURE team Engaging in the broader academic life of the faculty You will receive structured supervision and mentoring, including support in academic writing, publishing strategies, research design, and grant writing. Preference will be given to applicants demonstrating an excellent teaching record in seminar topics such as cinema and visual studies, popular culture, and gender and sexuality. Schemes of Service: Professional Officers Division: Professional Officers Employment Type: Fixed Term Professional Officer in Aerospace MRO (Smart Maintenance & Repair Systems) The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) is Singapore’s first University of Applied Learning, offering industry-relevant degree programmes that prepare its graduates to be work- and future-ready professionals. SIT is strengthening its capabilities in Aerospace Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), building a cohort of faculty who are experienced in solving real-world aerospace maintenance challenges through applied research and innovation. Focus areas for Aerospace MRO include: Smart Maintenance & Predictive Diagnostics Digital Twins & Lifecycle Engineering Robotics & Autonomous Inspection Systems Composite Structures Inspection & Repair Advanced Repair Technologies (e.g. Additive Manufacturing) Responsibilities: Design, develop, and teach laboratory sessions and practice-based modules in Aerospace MRO and related areas.
