Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre was established in 2020 by The University of Hong Kong in collaboration with Harvard University John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. The mission of the Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre is to accelerate progress in translating advanced biomedical instrumentation from research and development into real-world healthcare solutions that benefit people in Hong Kong and around the world. The Centre aims to foster collaboration among top-notch engineers, scientists and clinicians in the US and Hong Kong to develop next-generation microfluidics and low-cost instrumentation technologies. It also takes advantage of Hong Kong’s vibrant start-up community to commercialise the research work tailored for Asian patients. The Centre's R&D activities focus on three research programmes: Product Innovation with Engineering Excellence: develop innovative materials, therapeutic agents, devices and tools that require exceptionally precise manufacturing and highly sophisticated engineering know-how, and AI-enabled software products; Clinical Services Transformed with Novel Technologies: develop novel technologies that will transform clinical labs, and detect and analyse diseases with higher accuracy, lower cost, faster results, more convenient use, and other clinically impactful improvements; Technologies for Next Generation CRO: develop innovative research tools, such as organoids and animal neuro-testing systems, for safer, faster, more accurate, lower-cost, and more scalable implementation of pre-clinical research and drug development. RESEARCH ASSISTANT (PSYCHOLOGY/ OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY) AT THE SINGAPORE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (SIT) SIT Health and Social Sciences (HSS) is seeking candidates for the position of a Research Assistant for the research study ‘Integrative Neuro-social cognitive Strategy Programme for Instilling REcovery (INSPIRE): a Community-Based Cognitive Remediation Trial”. This study attempts to investigate the effects of cognitive remediation on neurocognition, social cognition and functional outcomes of persons with schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorders in the community mental health setting. It will be conducted in five community-based psychiatric rehabilitation centres. The Research Assistant is expected to work closely with colleagues at the five psychiatric rehabilitation centres, conduct outcome measurements and carry out all administrative procedures in accordance with research governance policies. The Research Assistant will also need to be able to work independently. As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with the Principal Investigator (PI), co-PIs, research team and industry partners to ensure all project deliverables are met. Conduct insights-driven evaluations of existing QA/QC testing practices and identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce redundant testing while maintaining compliance. Curate, standardize and integrate historical and statistical data to form the foundation of a structured database for construction QA/QC and traceability. Design and implement a digital chain-of-custody framework that captures assurance records including mill certificates, fabrication data, inspection results and carbon footprint information. Develop, train and validate AI models to automate QA/QC processes, enabling real-time verification, anomaly detection and consistency checks across records. Develop a cloud-based verification platform for digital data collection and real-time analytics. Develop and apply non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and data-driven approaches to determine material properties of reclaimed steel. Investigate geometric imperfections, accumulated deformations, and their impact on structural performance, particularly for compression members. Develop data-driven reusability assessment platforms integrating NDT data, machine learning models, and RFID-enabled traceability systems. Prepare and draft technical reports, conference/journal papers, and presentation materials; present research findings to internal reviews, industry partners and stakeholders. Engage with industry stakeholders throughout development, testing and refinement to ensure alignment with real-world requirements. To communicate in any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any ad-hoc duties assigned by Supervisor.  Job Requirements Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Civil/Construction Engineering, Engineering Systems or equivalent. Strong foundation in data engineering, AI/ML development, and software systems (e.g., data pipelines, cloud services, dashboards, web-based application development). Experience in handling real-world datasets and model development/deployment workflows. Domain expertise in building construction/civil/structural engineering, including familiarity with building management systems, software integration, data collection and analysis. Knowledge of construction QA/QC and quality control workflows (e.g., inspection processes, test documentation, traceability and compliance records) is an advantage. Strong background in structural engineering, structural mechanics, or steel structures. Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques for structural materials is desirable. Experience with structural modelling and analysis tools (e.g., finite element modelling, structural simulation) is desirable. Biodesign Finland at Aalto University is looking for four (4) part-time innovation fellows (participants) with the ambition and potential to become the next generation of medtech founders. Biodesign Finland invites motivated engineers, data scientists, designers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and university students to join our MedTech Founders program. The MedTech Founders program is executed part-time. Through need-driven innovation, you will develop clinically validated solutions and commercialization pathways at the intersection of research and entrepreneurship. The MedTech Founders program is organized by Aalto University through Biodesign Finland, a healthcare innovation and training program jointly developed by Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) and Aalto University. The positions, program structure and effort needed The program runs for 6.5 months. Selected candidates will be employed by Aalto University in a 20% part-time position for the duration of the program. Participation in the MedTech Founders Program requires a weekly time commitment corresponding to the 20% part-time position. This includes training sessions, clinical immersion, project work, teamwork, independent study, and other program-related activities. The part-time employment arrangement is one element of the program's implementation. The MedTech Founders training modules amount to 8 ECTS (see credits and certification below). During the program you will focus on clinical needs identification with HUS clinicians and healthcare professionals. After the need is identified you will build new need-based medical solutions and seek funding towards commercialization of your project supported by the program faculty and mentors. Credits and certification Participants with an active study right at Aalto University may be awarded ECTS credits upon completion of a personal study plan approved by Aalto University. Using the Biodesign innovation process, you will evaluate and prioritize identified needs and focus on developing a technically feasible and commercially viable solution to one selected healthcare need. Throughout the program, you will be supported by experienced instructors, healthcare professionals, industry experts, and mentors. The identified needs and proposed solutions will be further refined in collaboration with healthcare stakeholders to ensure their clinical relevance and potential impact. You are expected to take the leadership and responsibility for your project and the development and validation of the selected solution. The ultimate goal is to create innovations that can improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes while offering a pathway toward future commercialization. Program participants continue typically developing their solutions through follow-on research projects, innovation funding programs, or startups established after completing the program. What we are looking for We are looking for motivated individuals who have: A Master's degree or a higher University of Applied Sciences (UAS) degree, or equivalent expertise in engineering, data science (e.g., AI or machine learning), design and service design, clinical practice, life sciences, business, entrepreneurship, or another relevant field. University students applying to the program need to have completed all studies by the end of September 2026. Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English. Fluency in Finnish is considered an advantage. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to take initiative in uncertain environments.
