The University of Zambia is a public university located in Lusaka, the capital and largest city of Zambia. The university was established in 1965 and opened to students the year after.
The university is split across two campuses, one on Great East Road and another, for medical students, at John Mbita Road opposite the university teaching hospital.
The university offers some 157 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes across a range of schools including the school of agricultural sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences, law, mines, medicine, natural sciences, veterinary medicine and the Graduate School of Business. The majority of courses are taught in English.
There is accommodation available for up to 3,200 students at the main campus and a further 442 at the Ridgeway Campus. There is no accommodation for married students or parents, with each room being split between two students.
There are over 50 student organisations for students to join. There is also the East Park Mall, offering shopping, restaurants, gym and entertainment which is a five minute walk from the university campus.
Alumni include three of the country’s past presidents: Hakainde Hichilema, Edgar Lungu and Levy Mwanawasa.

Description The Marine Microbiomics Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to appoint a Research Technician with a background in chemistry or materials science to work on a collaborative project funded by Emirates Biotech, which is currently constructing the largest poly(lactic acid) (PLA) production facility in the world in Abu Dhabi. This unique partnership aims to assess the abiotic and biotic degradation of PLA under UAE environmental conditions, with direct relevance to sustainable plastics production and circular bioeconomy strategies in the region. The successful candidate will be responsible for characterizing PLA and other related materials under laboratory and field incubation experiments, applying a range of analytical and imaging techniques to study degradation pathways and kinetics. The technician will play a central role in Phase 1 of the project (abiotic lab simulations) and contribute to subsequent phases (field incubations and microbial enrichment studies). We are looking for applicants with: A Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science, or a related field. Strong hands-on experience with a range of analytical instrumentation, such as Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and related techniques. Demonstrated ability to prepare, process, and analyze polymer samples. Familiarity with experimental design, data analysis, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation. Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team. Primary responsibilities will include: Conducting laboratory simulations of PLA degradation under controlled terrestrial and marine conditions. Characterizing morphological, chemical, and thermal properties of PLA samples using advanced instrumentation. Analyzing degradation products and preparing detailed datasets for kinetics and modeling efforts. Conducting field incubations to deploy and retrieve PLA samples in UAE environments. Assisting with manuscript preparation, data management, and project reporting to both academic and industry partners. The purpose of the framework is to apply contemporary, evidence-based strategies to reduce the prevalence of gender-based violence with three streams: Primary prevention: developing and maintaining a robust culture of respect. Secondary prevention: targeted interventions aimed at those at risk of perpetrating or experiencing gender-based violence, and Tertiary prevention: ensuring the institutional responses to gender-based violence minimise further harm, prevent re-occurrence and ensure perpetrator accountability. The role will design and coordinate a whole of organisation culture change program of work involving a large and diverse group of stakeholders as well as providing support and expertise to other key university initiatives. The role is responsible for managing budgets from multiple sources, business as usual, Government funding and grants. It will also regularly develop proposals or business cases for specific projects or initiatives to attract additional funding. About us The Department of Informatics is looking to appoint a Reader in Computer Vision Education. As we continue to grow and strengthen our department, we are seeking to appoint a Reader in the area of computer vision education.
