Schemes of Service: Research Division: Engineering Employment Type: Fixed Term About the Project This project, conducted in collaboration with industry partners, aims to develop an innovative rapid curtain-change system for Singapore hospitals. The system targets three key challenges in healthcare facility operations: ergonomic safety for an ageing workforce, infection control, and retrofit compatibility with existing ceiling tracks and reusable curtains. Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical design and CAD modelling of curtain hook mechanisms, track inserts, and assistive tools using SolidWorks or Fusion 360 Fabricate and assemble prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, and workshop facilities Translate operational requirements from UEMS and hospital staff into engineering design specifications Conduct mechanical strength, fatigue, and ergonomic testing of prototypes in simulated and real healthcare environments Coordinate user trials and structured feedback sessions with UEMS supervisors and hospital staff Assist in co-supervision of student researchers (FYP/capstone) together with the Principal Investigator Coordinate procurement and liaise with vendors and suppliers Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and presentations for the project team and funding agency Requirements Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Product Design, or a related discipline Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent) and rapid prototyping tools (3D printing, CNC) Strong foundation in mechanical design, prototype fabrication, and testing methodologies Knowledge of human factors and ergonomics principles is an advantage Experience working in interdisciplinary teams; exposure to healthcare or service-related projects is preferred Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with ability to interact effectively with industry collaborators
