More about University of the West of Scotland

At University of the West of Scotland (UWS), we are committed to making a difference, creating a research culture and research environment of the highest quality, developing collaborative international partnerships, and ensuring that our activities have real-world applications.

We have a proud record in delivering work-ready graduates and developing effective partnerships with business, industry and the public and voluntary sectors. Our cutting-edge courses, practical knowledge, and intelligent teaching, help our students get ahead.

UWS researchers are making a real difference, working with partner organisations on innovative technologies to tackle a wide range of exciting and diverse issues critical to developing technology, improving lives and creating a more equal society in our regions and beyond.

UWS is one of Scotland’s most modern and dynamic international universities, but has a heritage dating back to 1897. Our research activity also informs our teaching and learning to enrich our students’ experience. In the 2014 REF (Research Excellence Framework) all of our submissions – double the number from the 2008 exercise – were ranked as having international or world leading status in terms of their originality, significance and rigour. The innovative technologies we are developing help shape society in Scotland and throughout the world: from research in ultrasound sensors, gravitational waves and 5G networking to apps for health monitoring.

Our courses are designed with commercial, industrial and professional partners to ensure that learning meets the demands of the world of work. Many programmes are professionally recognised or accredited.
