About University of Venda

The University of Venda is a rural higher education institution located in Thohoyandou, a town in the Limpopo Province of South Africa. The university was established in 1982.

In its initial years, staff members came from South Africa but following 1994 employees were recruited from other African countries and even overseas.

Following the changes in 1994, along with new leadership at the university, the focus shifted towards science and technology which resulted in more programmes on offer and higher numbers of students attending.

The university now offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses across a range of topics in faculties including the management, commerce and law, science, engineering and agriculture, humanities, social science and education and health sciences.

The campus has residence spaces for students both across the university and in the surrounding Thohoyandou area. There is an art gallery which houses a range of carvings, sculptures and paintings created by locals and students alike. There’s also a large sports centre and opportunity to partake in extracurricular activities including dance and drama.
