About the University of Valladolid

The University of Valladolid is a public university located in the city of Valladolid in north west Spain. Tracing its origins back to 1241, the University of Valladolid is one of the oldest higher education institutions in Spain. Alongside the Universities of Palencia, Salamanca and Lérida, the university formed part of the great intellectual movement which developed in Western Europe in the 12th and 13th centuries. The institution is the largest university in the region of Castile and Leon, and has four campuses located in Valladolid, Palencia, Segovia and Soria. One of its most notable buildings, constructed at the end of the 15th century, is the four-sided cloister which incorporates a late Gothic chapel. The university square, also known as the Plaza de Santa María (today also known as the University Square), features a Baroque facade designed by the Carmelite Fray Pedro de la Visitación, which was constructed in 1715. A university youth symphonic orchestra, the Joven Orquesta de la Universidad de Valladolid - or JOUVa - is run by students, and has been active since 1998. There is also a popular and well-known choir, the Coro de la Universidad de Valladolid. The Gente de Teatro de la Uva theatre group, established in 1984 is the official theatre group of the university. These organisations play an active part in the university’s cultural programmes, which take place throughout the year. Valladolid and the surrounding area is renowned for the Spanish spoken word, considered by many to be the purest form of the language. Many poets and writers, including Gaspar Núñez de Arce, Miguel de Cervantes, José Zorrilla, Rosa Chacel and Miguel Delibes, were born or lived nearby.

An opportunity has arisen in the central Safety, Health and Environment Department at Liverpool John Moores University for an Event Safety Coordinator. There are between 1000 and 1200 events on university premises each year, varying in size from small meetings to larger gatherings with external visitors, or events run by external organisations. The role will affect any Professional Service or Faculty that is planning to hold events on university premises. Event safety will be the primary responsibility of this position; as such it will be the custodian of the health and safety elements of the event management process. Working collaboratively with other colleagues, you will have an important part to play in the planning, setting up, execution and review of events for the benefit of the university community and our visitors. The role will be crucial in helping the university discharge its responsibilities under Martyn’s Law (Terrorism Protection of Premises Act 2025) and its recent Guidance, as well as focusing on arrangements for fire safety and first aid at events. You will have the responsibility for horizon-scanning, reviewing, updating, and consulting on policy. To be successful, the role requires credibility. You will be expected to attend Faculty and Professional Services Management meetings, deliver training, deliver presentations to a senior level within the organisation and to have a level of gravitas in their approach. Similarly, you will need to be resilient. There will inevitably be occasions where event requests will be turned down, and decisions may be challenged by colleagues in senior positions. The primary purpose of this role is to deliver on a collaborative research project, Proteins for Singapore (P4SG), where you will be part of the research team to establish and understand the structuration of algae/soybean/mung bean proteins for high quality alternative protein foods including through high moisture extrusion. Key responsibilities will include: Explore innovative methods for food process optimization including the use of AI and machine-learning Develop and execute methods for characterizing and linking the texture and structure of alternative protein foods Design, execute, and interpret experiments independently. Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigators (PI), and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables including periodic progress reports are met. Author papers in high-quality journals and contribute to grant writing in areas that are related to the research. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as manage a team of junior researchers and students to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver on an industry innovation research project where you will be part of the research team to lead the storm surge modelling in the Singapore Sea. As a specialist in wave modelling software, the successful candidate will work on cutting-edge projects related to coastal and ocean wave modelling using Delt3D software. The role of the researcher is to perform physics-based modeling to build a numerical model that can predict storm surges in Singapore coastlines based on different weather conditions. The researcher will also work with team members within the consortium in generating necessary data required for developing a machine learning model for storm surge prediction. Key Responsibilities Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met. Undertake these responsibilities in the project: Delft3D and SWAN Modelling: Utilize Delft3D and SWAN software to develop and validate numerical models for wave propagation, storm surge modelling, and coastal dynamics. Building up of a database of sea level anomaly with extreme weather conditions: Utilize the developed numerical model to build a database of sea level anomaly with different weather conditions, which can be used to develop a data-driven model for storm surge prediction. Data Analysis: Process and analyze climate, ocean wave and coastal data to improve model accuracy. Research: Conduct research to enhance wave modelling techniques and contribute to the advancement of coastal engineering and oceanography. Impact Assessment: Evaluating the potential impacts of storm surges on coastal regions, including flood risk assessments and vulnerability analyses. Collaboration: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including hydrodynamic researchers, coastal engineers, and oceanographers. Reporting: Prepare research findings for publication in scientific journals and present results at conferences. Carry out Risk Assessment, and ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health Regulations. Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers. Work independently, as well as within a team, to ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Assists in co-supervision of Final Year Projects (FYP) or capstone projects students together with the project PI. The employee is to communicate with any relevant internal or external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are met. Any adhoc duties assigned. Requirements PhD or Master degree in a related field with a focus on coastal engineering, oceanography, or hydrodynamics. Proficiency in wave modeling software, particularly Delft3D and SWAN. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Research experience in coastal and ocean waves is preferred.
