University of Uyo was founded as a teachers college in 1983. It changed it name a few times including Advanced Training College, College of Education affiliated to the University of Port Harcourt and University of Cross River State before taking on its current identity as a Federal university in 1991. It is based in Oyo the capital of the state of Akwa Ikbom. The main campus, a 1443 hectare site. three miles from the city centre and accommodates central administration, the postgraduate school, the faculties of natural and applied science, and agriculture as well as the centre for energy and environmental sustainability research. The town campus is where the faculties of arts, education, social science and pharmacy are located while the annexe campus hosts business administration, law, environmental studies and general studies. Preparatory, pre-degree and special courses are taught at the Ime Umana campus while the college of health sciences is based at the Teaching Hospital, six miles from the main campus. Facilities available to students include a 1,050-bed hostel with 50 places for disabled students and a new faculty of arts block.

Through the integration of technology, social sciences, digital materials, and sustainable energy, we strive to drive transformative solutions for a sustainable future.  POSITION REQUIREMENTS  The faculty members will be responsible for three primary responsibilities:   Research  Lead high-impact research with strong translational outcomes and publications in top-tier journals and secure competitive external funding.  Foster interdisciplinary collaboration within and beyond the College through active engagement in academic events.  Contribute to innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology transfer, including commercialization efforts.  Teaching  Develop, plan, and deliver high-quality, accredited curricula for undergraduate and/or graduate programs.  Prepare course materials, deliver lectures and tutorials, assess student performance, provide feedback, and supervise academic projects.  Supervise research students and projects, and mentor junior faculty to support their professional   Service  Contribute to university service through committee work, faculty recruitment, accreditation, and program development.  Support initiatives aligned with VinUni’s Vision 2030 and carry out duties assigned by the Dean.  KEY SELECTION CRITERIA  General Requirements (All Faculty Levels)  Degree: PhD (or equivalent terminal/professional degree) from a prestigious university in one or more of the following primary areas: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence.  Teaching: Demonstrated teaching ability and commitment to student-centered, active and authentic learning.  Research: Evidence of scholarly achievement or strong potential through publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals; engagement in international conferences or research collaborations; and commitment to developing an independent, externally funded research program.  Service/Industry Engagement: Experience in multinational, multicultural, or start-up environments is highly valued.  Specific Requirements by Rank  Assistant Professor  Postdoctoral or equivalent experience is preferable. Demonstrated potential for high-quality, independent research, and effective teaching. Description The New York University Abu Dhabi Computational Approaches to Modeling Language (CAMeL) Lab seeks to hire a post-doctoral researcher to work in any of the lab research areas, to be involved in the development of open source tools and resources, and to work on publications related to their work. CAMeL's mission is research and education in artificial intelligence, specifically focusing on natural language processing, computational linguistics, and data science. The main lab research areas are Arabic natural language processing (orthography normalization, grammatical error correction, morphology tagging, syntax parsing, readability assessment), machine translation, and text analytics. Since its establishment in 2014, the CAMeL Lab has produced over 200 publications and 20 language resources and tools. The lab website is http://www.camel-lab.com/. Google Scholar of the lab is at http://scholar.camel-lab.com/. The position will target the rank of Post-Doctoral Associate (within less than 5 years of experience post receiving their PhD). A strong preference is for individuals with (a) computer science or computer engineering degrees with previous experience in natural language processing; or computational linguistics/language technologies degrees; (b) strong programming skills and machine learning experience; and (c) a research publication record appropriate for the hiring rank. Knowledge of Arabic language is preferred, but not required. Previous work on Arabic NLP is preferred but not required. Schemes of Service: Research Division: Engineering Employment Type: Fixed Term As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT. To provide technical and operational leadership in the development, execution, and translation of sustainable geomaterials for land reclamation under an industry-collaborative research programme, working under the strategic direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure successful delivery from laboratory research to pilot and field implementation. Key responsibilities include: Support the PI in the planning, execution, and delivery of the research project, including leading day-to-day technical activities to ensure milestones and deliverables are achieved within timeline and budget. Provide technical leadership in the development of carbonation-engineered geomaterials (e.g. demolition fines, incineration bottom ash) for reclamation applications, aligned with the research direction set by the PI. Design and oversee experimental programmes, including laboratory testing, pilot-scale trials, and field validation, ensuring technical rigour and relevance to industry application. Translate research findings into engineering solutions, including material specifications, performance frameworks, and implementation methodologies suitable for industry adoption. Lead the scale-up of laboratory processes (e.g. aqueous carbonation) to prototype and pilot systems, including system design, optimisation, and operational considerations. Supervise and mentor research staff (RFs, REs, RAs), including task allocation, technical guidance, and monitoring of progress to ensure effective team delivery. Coordinate with industry partners and vendors on technical matters, including trials, material supply, equipment development, and site implementation. Identify and resolve complex technical challenges related to material variability, process scalability, and environmental compliance. Oversee environmental performance assessment, including leachate testing and alignment with regulatory requirements for reclamation use. Prepare and contribute to technical reports, journal publications, and presentations for stakeholders, funding agencies, and dissemination. Support the PI in identifying new research opportunities, contributing to proposal development, and strengthening industry engagement. Co-supervise undergraduate, Industrial Master and Doctoral students in alignment with project objectives. Ensure compliance with Work, Safety and Health (WSH) regulations, including maintaining risk assessments and safe laboratory and field practices. Job Requirements PhD in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline, with at least 10 years of relevant industry or research experience; or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with at least 15 years of relevant industry or research experience. Demonstrated experience in leading technical components of research or engineering projects and supervising junior staff. Experience in experimental programme design, laboratory and/or field testing, and data-driven engineering evaluation. Familiarity with material treatment or processing methods (e.g. stabilisation, carbonation, or related technologies) will be advantageous. Experience in industry collaboration, pilot-scale implementation, or technology translation will be advantageous. Experience in reclamation or ground improvement will be advantageous. Knowledge of environmental assessment and leachate testing for construction materials will be an advantage.
