Based within Applied Chemistry and Environmental Science in the School of Science at RMIT University, the role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams and engaging with national and international collaborators in sustainable energy research. The successful candidate will contribute to high-impact research aligned with RMIT's strategic priorities, undertaking both independent and team-based projects in materials science, with a particular emphasis on electrochemistry. In addition to supporting the day-to-day operations of the project, the Research Assistant will help build strong research networks, contribute to securing research funding, and produce high-quality outputs including publications and potential patents. About You Evidence of experience in well-developed, hands-on laboratory synthesis of advanced two dimensional (2D) layered nanomaterials and their characterisation. Evidence of experience in manipulating materials for improving the performance of electrochemistry. Evidence of experience in manipulating materials for flexible or wearable energy application. Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs, which will contribute to existing Discipline and School research areas evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, and competitive research funding. Demonstrated ability to work with and supervise higher degree by research candidates. Ability to build effective networks with colleagues resulting in collaborative outcomes. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills appropriate for interacting with higher degree by research candidates, staff and industry, together with a strong commitment to teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration. The Role and Department The Chemistry department at Durham is one of the very best departments in the UK with an outstanding reputation for excellence in teaching, research and employability of our students. The chemistry department also holds an Athena Swan Silver Award. The Role Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in gas-phase ion spectroscopy with a particular emphasis on utilising spectroscopic tools (photoelectron imaging and action spectroscopy) to study the structure and dynamics of transition metal complexes. The research project aims to develop a new method for elucidating the mechanisms of transition metal chemistry, by isolating reactive intermediates in the gas-phase and interrogating their electronic structure using ion spectroscopy. The research project will be led by Jemma Gibbard, and is funded by a Leverhulme Trust Research Project Grant. The successful applicant will be expected to aid the development of experimental protocols, perform experiments (gas-phase ion spectroscopy with ns/fs laser systems), analyse and interpret data, and prepare outputs in the form of manuscripts and presentations at scientific conferences.

Job Description The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the development of Earth Observation and spatial analytics approaches applied to the analysis and monitoring of urban environmental systems. The research will integrate geomatics, remote sensing, environmental geosciences, and artificial intelligence methods to investigate soil conditions, land-use dynamics, environmental processes, and urban ecosystem functioning. This work aligns with the strategy of the Center for Urban Systems (CUS), which aims to promote sustainable, resilient, and data-driven urban development in Morocco and across Africa. The research will support the understanding and management of environmental challenges in urban areas, including land degradation, soil sealing, environmental risks, and the impacts of climate change on urban landscapes.   Main Responsibilities •    Develop Earth Observation based methodologies for monitoring urban environments, including soil conditions, land-use change, and environmental dynamics. •    Design and implement spatial analytics and geospatial modeling approaches to analyze urban environmental processes. •    Apply machine learning and geospatial data analysis techniques to large Earth Observation datasets. •    Produce high-quality scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and present research results at international conferences. •    Contribute to interdisciplinary research projects within the CUS related to urban sustainability, environmental monitoring, and urban resilience. Key Duties •    Develop spatial analysis tools and geospatial models for monitoring urban environmental indicators. •    Integrate multi-source Earth Observation data (satellite imagery, environmental datasets, geospatial databases) for urban analysis. •    Collaborate with academic partners, public institutions, and urban stakeholders to support sustainable urban planning strategies. •    Contribute to the preparation of research proposals and respond to national and international research funding calls. •    Prepare scientific articles, technical reports, and policy-oriented documents to disseminate research findings. REQUIRED PROFILE •    Ph.D. in Geomatics, Earth Observation, Environmental Geosciences, Geography or a related field. •    Proven experience in remote sensing, spatial analysis, and geospatial modeling applied to environmental or urban systems. •    Strong expertise in geospatial data analysis and machine learning techniques applied to Earth Observation data. •    Proficiency in geospatial software and platforms such as QGIS, ArcGIS, or Google Earth Engine. •    Programming skills in Python or similar scientific computing environments, with experience in geospatial and machine learning libraries.
