Founded in 1885, the University of St. Thomas is a Catholic affiliated liberal arts university based in St. Paul and Minneapolis, between Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Twin Cities can be a great place for students to live and study, offering both a wide range of cultural locations such as the Walker Art Centre and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and internship opportunities in areas such as advertising, communications, and business development.
There are more than 90 undergraduate and 60 graduate programs at St. Thomas, between the colleges of Arts & Sciences, Education, Business, Divinity, Engineering, Law, and Social Work. An initiative of the Theology department, the Muslim-Christian Dialogue Centre is dedicated to fostering relations with communities, and works closely with Phillips Centre for Interfaith Learning. Also at St. Thomas is the Maths Resource Centre, Centre for Economic Education, and the Veritas Institute, which carries the mission statement of ‘advancing the common good through positive social impact’.
Athletics teams at St. Thomas are known as Tommies with a mascot of the Tomcat, and compete in the NCAA Division III. There are a total of twenty sports programmes, including basketball, golf, and soccer. American football games are played at O’Shaughnessy Stadium, and are also broadcast over local radio.
Graduates of St. Thomas include game designer Larry Bond, actor T. R. Knight, activist and international lawyer Semhar Araia, and long-serving congressman Jim Oberstar.
There is a strong tradition of Catholic led education in the area, with women’s college St. Catherine University located nearby. The university is not to be confused with the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas.

Description The Center for Technology, Economics, and Development (CTED) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications from individuals to be appointed as a Junior Research Scientist (AI-Blockchain Project) for a one-year period, with the possibility of renewal conditional on excellent performance. The Junior Research Scientist (AI-Blockchain Research) will support advanced, quantitatively intensive research at CTED with a primary focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematical modeling, and computational analysis. The Junior Research Scientist will play a central role in supporting research design, algorithmic development, data analysis, and coding tasks across CTED’s interdisciplinary projects. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Yaw Nyarko, and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), Dr. Raša Karapandža, the Junior Research Scientist will contribute to AI-driven and blockchain-enabled research related to commodities markets and economic development. The role requires strong foundations in mathematics and computer science, including statistical learning, optimization, simulation, and algorithmic reasoning. The successful candidate will use programming and computational tools (including Python, MATLAB, and related libraries) to develop, test, and evaluate machine learning models; review, proofread, and execute formal mathematical proofs; implement optimization and simulation-based methods; and analyze large and complex datasets. Responsibilities include supporting experimental and field-based research, preparing literature reviews, translating complex AI and mathematical findings into clear written outputs, and contributing to research reports, concept notes, and academic publications. Candidates must hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field (e.g., Economics with a strong mathematics background). and have less than five years of relevant research experience; or hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with any level of research experience. Applicants must have extensive coding experience, and preferably, applicants will have experience conducting field research in emerging countries and working on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Applicants with experience working in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and/or MATLAB, a strong interest in economic and quantitative research and the willingness to learn about the blockchain, are encouraged to apply. Experience in web development, blockchain, commodities markets, and technology and economic development will be considered a plus. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment, working autonomously, but as a team member under the direction of the Principal Investigator. The University of Southampton Faculty of Medicine is offering an appointment to be based within the Faculty of Medicine at Southampton General Hospital. This post holder will work within the paediatric respiratory and allergy research team. They will primarily being undertaking a trial focused on the prevention of childhood asthma. Additionally, they will provide some support to studies focused on preventing food allergy and managing acute severe childhood asthma. The post will provide practical training for a middle grade doctor in the conduct of clinical trials, focussing on supporting clinical trials through all stages including implementation and supporting sites in recruitment, regulatory approvals, data collection and integrity, data presentation and working with translational samples. The post is intended to provide valuable training in research governance and regulation for future clinical and translational researchers. There may be an option to undertake a higher degree. The appointee will provide day to day medical support for study teams under supervision from Professor Graham Roberts (Professor of Paediatric Allergy and Respiratory Medicine). They will be involved in trial implementation and involvement in study protocol amendments and implementation including ethics committee documentation and R&D submissions. Training in clinical trials methodology including Good Clinical Practice will be provided. The post will be at registrar level and will require a medical qualification. It would be suitable for a trainee with relevant experience in paediatric medicine as out of program experience or for someone wishing to pursue a career in this specialty prior to obtaining a training number. The post will be a University appointment and does not have any direct clinical work. Duration of post to be discussed with the potential candidate but is 12 months in the first instance.
