About University of Sargodha

Founded in 2002 by an ordinance of the Punjab government, the University of Sargodha is a public university in the city of Sargodha in Pakistan, with two satellite campuses in the Punjab cities of Mianwali and Bhakkar.

The history of the university can be traced back to 1929, when De’Montmorency College was established at Shahpur Sadr, before being shifted to Sargodha in 1946.

Today, there are about 460 academic staff for nearly 30,000 students across eight faculties. Out of 137 degree programmes, 53 are postgraduate. Some 400 educational institutions are affiliated to the university.

The eight faculties include agriculture, social and behavioural sciences, Islamic and oriental learning, management and administrative sciences, science, technology, healthcare sciences, pharmacy and engineering. The Noon Business School forms its own separate division.

There are also institutes, which include food science and nutrition, and art and design.

Successful research projects at the university have included creating a cooking oil with increased shelf life of one year, a project called "A Herbal Antioxidant System for Chewing Gum Stability", and a new paracetamol tablet that is not as injurious to the liver.

The university also produces its own mineral water, named Khus Aab, meaning "pleasant water" in Farsi, which it exports to Abu Dhabi.

The university is one of three centres in Pakistan for X-ray crystallography and has an electron microscope, which is rare in Pakistan.

Orphans and those who have memorised the Koran are given education free of charge at SU.

The University Medical and Diagnostic Centre and Model Pharmacy treats and provides medicines to locals for cheaper rates.
