About the University of San Jose-Recoletos
Basic information and contact details for the University of San Jose-Recoletos
The University of San Jose-Recoletos is a private Catholic university in Cebu City, Philippines, administered by the Order of Augustinian Recollects. It was originally established in 1947 as Colegio de San Jose-Recoletos and was granted university status in 1984, evolving into one of Cebu’s long-standing faith-based higher education institutions.
USJ-R operates across three campuses in Cebu City: the Main Campus in Cebu City, the Basak Campus in the Basak Pardo district, and the Balamban Campus. Cebu City is known as the ‘Queen City of the South’, and is one of the oldest cities in the Philippines.
It offers basic education through to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. It is comprised of several academic colleges including arts and sciences, business and management engineering, education, allied medical sciences, computer studies, law, and architecture.
Its Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP) is a government-recognised alternative education that allows working professionals to earn a degree without undergoing traditional classroom-based schooling.
Student life at USJ-R is shaped by its Augustinian Recollect identity through Campus Ministry-led formation activities such as retreats, recollections, and regular masses integrated into university life. Students also participate in service-learning and outreach programmes in partner communities across Cebu, supporting education, social welfare, and environmental initiatives.
