About the role We are seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Education (Leadership) to join Southampton Education School. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, research-informed environment with a strong commitment to educational leadership, innovation, and impact. The postholder will play a central role in the delivery and development of the MSc Education programme, with a particular focus on leadership-related modules. You will contribute high-quality teaching, support student learning and supervision, and help shape the ongoing development of our postgraduate provision. What you’ll do You will: Deliver high-quality teaching across the MSc Education programme, primarily on educational leadership modules, using a range of approaches including lectures, seminars, and tutorials Design, assess, and provide feedback on coursework and examinations, supporting student progression and achievement Supervise postgraduate students, offering academic guidance and support for their learning and research Contribute to the development, review, and enhancement of leadership-focused curricula, ensuring coherence, innovation, and alignment with current research and practice Support the School’s teaching objectives through ongoing evaluation and improvement of learning and teaching Contribute to pedagogic scholarship, including dissemination of teaching innovation and practice Undertake administrative and coordination responsibilities linked to programme delivery (e.g. admissions, assessment processes, quality assurance) About you We are looking for a colleague with expertise in educational leadership and a strong commitment to high-quality teaching. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics/Genomics, Stem Cell Biology, or a related discipline, and demonstrate outstanding experimental, writing, and communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates with research experience in epigenetics, stem cell reprogramming, neural development, disease modelling using human iPSCs, and/or bioinformatics/artificial intelligence. In particular, we seek applicants with expertise in techniques such as genomics, CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome editing, pluripotent stem cell differentiation, neural precursor cell and neuronal culture, and in vivo animal modelling. Experience in translational research in neurodegeneration, cancer, or rare genetic diseases will be considered a plus. Candidates must demonstrate a strong command of written and spoken English, high levels of self-motivation, innovation, and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment. The post holder will be working with Dr Joaquin Prada and European partners to develop epidemiological models for priority diseases in Europe as part of an EU funded project under the EU Partnership for Animal Health and Welfare (https://www.eupahw.eu/). In particular, the postholder will develop and integrate models for the spread of respiratory diseases in pigs and estimate the economic consequences of these diseases, with a focus on surveillance and control. The postholder will take responsibility for data analysis and statistical and mathematical modelling aspects of the projects, integrating outputs from the teams at the partner institutions. In addition, they will be required to participate in activities in Europe. They will be expected to present their work at conferences and to write publications based on their research findings. The post holder will have the opportunity to engage with other research fellows across the University and other project partners, and to take advantage of training opportunities targeted at early career researchers. About you You are finishing a PhD in mathematical modelling or related discipline with research experience in epidemiology/statistics and diseases in pigs, and you are looking for a part-time position as you finish writing up. You have a track record of working in a multidisciplinary team, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
