Background The Faculty of Social Sciences and Institute for Social Research are collaborating to foster cutting-edge areas in social sciences research. This joint post-doctoral researcher aims to support the next generation of leading social sciences researchers, by enabling them to develop a range of research skills in different contexts, working with mentors with different disciplinary and substantive expertise in the social sciences. The successful candidate will have the chance to work with leading researchers (mentors) in both FOSS and ISR to develop his/her research ideas and skills for a future career in academia or another research setting. He/She will work at HKU in the first year and is expected to spend the second year at U Michigan. He/She will be required to complete the necessary administration procedures (including recruitment, visa application) for taking up an appointment at U of Michigan, pursuant to relevant terms of employment. Duties and Responsibilities Produce high quality research on the research priorities and clusters of both FOSS (HKU) and ISR (Michigan) Support FOSS and ISR colleagues in research dissemination events Assist FOSS and ISR colleagues in the preparation of research reports Perform other research related duties for FoSS and ISR Requirements a Ph.D. degree in social sciences discipline from a recognized university, awarded within the past three calendar years, or expected to obtain a Ph.D. degree by the start of the fellowship (no later than December 1, 2026). The role is responsible for identifying high-value collaboration opportunities, shaping business models for applied AI projects, and securing funding or co-development commitments that contribute to SNAIC’s long-term sustainability. The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the position of INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST for a fixed-term appointment from 11 May, 2026 to 31 March, 2027, or as agreed. We seek an information systems specialist to join the ReliaCode project at the University of Helsinki. Our aim is to make LLMs usable in organisational settings with high reliability requirements, especially for reasoning about complex document collections. We’re building methods to make it easier to tell when LLM outputs can’t be trusted, and to improve systems efficiently from limited human feedback. The work is part of an early-stage initiative based in a university environment, with secured funding and a strong focus on real-world impact through pilot collaborations with organizations. The goal is to iteratively develop a product that could evolve either into a general-purpose platform for unstructured data processing or a focused solution in a specific domain. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of research and product, and to help shape the technical direction of a potential startup from the ground up. We are offering a year-long full-time contract with the possibility of continuing afterwards in a potential spin-out company.
