The University of Tsukuba was founded in 1973, following the relocation of its predecessor the Tokyo University of Education to the city of Tsukuba.

The university’s main campus is spread across 258 hectares and is still located in the Tsukuba Science City, a science park developed in the 1960s. One in 10 of the residents in Tsukuba is a researcher. The city, which is northeast of Tokyo, is also home to more than 30 per cent of Japan’s national research institutes.

The University of Tsukuba also has a campus in Tokyo, which offers graduate-level evening courses.

The institution has a particular focus on interdisciplinary studies and internationalisation, with international cooperation agreements with North Africa and Central Asia.

Around 70 current and former students at the institution have participated in the Olympic Games. The university also does research and offers courses on the international sporting event.

Meanwhile, the university is home to three Nobel laureates: former presidents of the institution Sin-Itiro Tomonaga and Leo Esaki won the physics prizes in 1965 and 1973 respectively, while professor emeritus Hideki Shirakawa won the chemistry prize in 2000.

Jigoro Kano, the founder of the Kodokan Institute, the headquarters of the worldwide judo community, was the leader of the Higher Normal School and Tokyo Higher Normal School, which were antecedents to the university.

The institution’s slogan is: “Imagine the future”.

Tsukuba is a city in the northern Kantō region of Japan. Mount Tsukuba, also known as the “purple mountain” is famous for its double peaks.

Based across King’s Denmark Hill, Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo campuses, our academic programme of teaching, research and clinical practice is embedded across five Departments About the role The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer is the operational and partnership lead for the Inkfish EMBRACE (Enhanced Maternal and Baby Results with AI-supported Care and Empowerment) programme, setting up and managing the operations across the multi-partner, multiple country consortium. The post holder is required to be a highly experienced, strategic leader with expertise in artificial intelligence in the context of personalised health. EMBRACE is a visionary, multicomponent international research programme, the first of its kind in the world, supported by Inkfish with £35M core funds over six years, starting in April 2025. It is a global study of 60,000 participants, including 20,000 mothers, 20,000 infants and up to 20,000 partners. It brings together world-leading clinician scientists across six distinguished Healthcare organisations, world-leading AI & technology companies, together with premier biotech companies, with the overarching aim to fast-track major scientific breakthroughs, revolutionise maternal and early childhood health through precision-personalised interventions, powered by a groundbreaking symbiosis of cutting-edge AI combined with human support. The post holder is responsible for establishing and managing the EMBRACE programme working closely with the study Director and lead PI, Professor Josip Car (King’s College London), Senior Advisors, other members of the research leadership team and Industry partner organisations. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will manage all parties within the global consortium and key stakeholders to set up and maintain an operational framework that meets the regulatory requirements of each partner country and organisation to meet EMBRACE’s ambitious goals. They will oversee day-to-day execution of decisions and contracts, including the oversight of the research teams and business operations. This includes the consortium’s financial management, project management – meeting key milestones, writing and presenting reports, establishing and overseeing the programme’s governance, ethical and regulatory compliance, and maintaining internal and external relationships including with industry partners, funders and collaborators. The EMBRACE Chief Operating Officer will provide strategic leadership, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensure delivery of high-impact research outcomes. This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 01/10/2030. Please note that you will be expected to come into the office a minimum of 4 days a week. Description The Center of Astrophysics and Space Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Junior Research Scientist to work with the Mars Research Group to support scientific investigations of the Martian atmosphere and surface using data from the Emirates Mars Mission (EMM) “Hope” probe. The position contributes to ongoing research, data analysis, simulation efforts, and dissemination of scientific results from Hope observations. The funding for this position is provided by the UAE Space Agency. The successful applicant will; Analyze Emirates Mars Mission (Hope) data: Conduct detailed analysis of atmospheric and surface observations collected by the UAE’s Hope probe to support scientific goals of understanding Martian atmospheric and surface processes. Assist with analysis of additional Mars mission datasets: Examine and interpret complementary data from other Mars missions to strengthen current models and provide comparative insights that enhance research conclusions from Hope observations. Develop Machine Learning methods and run numerical simulations on NYUAD’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) system. Support preparation of scientific manuscripts and presentations: Assist in drafting reports, papers, and conference materials to communicate research findings to the global scientific community. A candidate with a Master’s degree is preferred; however, the minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in physics, computer science, or a related discipline. The role requires strong programming skills in Python, competency in data analysis and scientific computing, and the ability to work with large datasets. Research Fellow in Connecting Generations

We are delighted to welcome applications for a Research Fellow post within the ESRC Connecting Generations programme to examine intergenerational flows of support in later life and the increased cost-of-living in the UK.  ESRC Connecting Generations is a collaborative project between the long-established Centre for Population Change (University of Southampton, University of St Andrews, and University of Stirling), the University of Oxford Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science, and the Resolution Foundation. ESRC Connecting Generations aims to innovate in knowledge and understanding of intergenerational relations and population change. The Centre is led by Professor Jane Falkingham. For further details, see https://www.cpc.ac.uk/research_programme/connecting_generations/  This project will examine intergenerational flows of support in later life and the increased cost-of-living in the UK, via data collected from two project Directives from the Mass Observation Study, University of Sussex. Qualitative narratives were collected in Spring 2023 and also August 2024 in order to investigate the role of intergenerational support in mitigating the rising costs of living and whether growing costs have adversely affected intergenerational flows of support. This research position is in the Department of Gerontology within the Faculty of Social Sciences, where Professors Evandrou and Vlachantoni are based. You will be part of a collaborative team including other project Researchers, the CPC Research Manager and Knowledge Exchange team, as well as Faculty members from both the Department of Gerontology at the University of Southampton and other Departments and partner institutions.  To be successful in the role you will have, or will be close to completing, a PhD (or equivalent professional qualifications) with a background in Gerontology or Social Policy and strong qualitative research methods skills in a relevant discipline. You will have knowledge and expertise in data analysis and be skilled in the use of e.g. NVivo or other software. You will have proven ability to plan and organise your work independently and as part of a team and have the ability to write research presentations and papers for peer review publication.  The Research Fellow post is full-time fixed term for 12 months and is available from the 1st March 2026. Due to external project funding, the latest start date is 1st April 2026 with a fixed term end date of 31st March 2027.
