The University of Reading began life in the 19th century as an extension College of the University of Oxford, before being awarded university status in 1926.

Reading is now a leading UK university and home to 17,000 students from over 150 countries. It offers a wide range of degree programmes encompassing the pure and applied sciences, social sciences, languages, arts, humanities and business.

With a reputation for multidisciplinary research and collaborations, the university comprises over 50 research centres, which are recognised centres of excellence, in areas that include agriculture, meteorology, the physical sciences, and European history and culture.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, 98% of Reading’s research was rated as being of international standing

It operates across three campuses. Its main Whiteknights campus has won awards for its 130 hectares of beautiful parkland, while the historic London Road campus has recently undergone a £30 million transformation. The Greenlands Campus, situated on the banks of the River Thames, houses one of Europe’s top business schools, along with a fitness centre, business facilities and conference centre,

The university has a strong global presence, with a business school located in Johannesburg, an overseas campus in Malaysia and a newly established joint Academy with Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology in China. It is also runs the Thames Valley Science Park, a cluster of 70 high-tech companies located on its Whiteknights campus.

Reading’s various campuses also feature a sports park, a film theatre, four museums, 300,000 plant specimens, lakes, meadows and a cherry tree orchard.

Its Henley Business School holds triple-accredited status, while The Financial Times and The Economist both consistently rank it as being in the world’s top 50 business schools.

Reading is a lively city famed for hosting one of the biggest annual music festivals in the UK. Over 87,000 music fans attend Reading Festival each summer to see some of the biggest names in music. The Berkshire town is also home to an abundance of parks, shopping and sports facilities.

The Role and the Department Northern Accelerator is led by Durham University in partnership with Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside - who come together through Universities for North East England (UNEE). We are seeking a skilled, creative and experienced Marketing and Communications Officer who can provide excellent communications and events support for Northern Accelerator. The postholder will also work with the programme team to support the commercialisation eco-system with a programme of excellent internal communications activity. The postholder will work closely with the Northern Accelerator and SCENE project teams, side-by-side with the Marketing Officer for SCENE. Internally our projects are separately funded, but externally you will support a strong cohesive Northern Accelerator brand across all activity. Northern Accelerator is an ambitious project strong aims and multiple partners and the role of communications will be key in ensuring the visibility of the various aspects of the programme and maintaining a strong sense of common endeavour. Ideally, the postholder will have a good understanding of innovation and commercialisation purposes and mechanisms and be able to work flexibly and collaboratively with our partners and stakeholders to design and ensure delivery of effective communication plans. They will also need to understand the purpose of our national and regional funders in allocating the resource, in order to maintain alignment of Northern Accelerator communications activity with the economic plans in the North East and national commercialisation objectives. The main duties of the post will be: Working with the Head of Regional programmes, Programme Manager and other team members, design and ensure a strong and visible communications and events plan to support the effective delivery of the Northern Accelerator programme. Co-ordinate internal communications activity between the University partners and the wider network of Strategic partners to underpin the success of the commercialisation ecosystem. Work closely with the wider network of Communications staff to ensure there are complementary communication activities across, Northern Accelerator, the SCENE programme, the Commercialisation and Spinout Fund, and any other projects which re-enforce their brands and demonstrate the collaboration between North East universities. Provide support, advice, information, presentations and guidance to University staff regarding the communications activities within the project, including ensuring compliance with the expectations of partners and funders with respect of use of logos and other corporate or programme identities and to be the focal point for communications across the University and strategic partners. Monitor communications activities against a key set of metrics and make proposals for improvement The postholder will sit within Durham University's Research and Innovation Services (RIS) team, accountable to the Head of Regional Programmes. RIS is a professional services directorate at the heart of Durham University which provides expertise, leadership and support to academics and professional colleagues across the University for all research, research-related, knowledge exchange and economic development activities and aims to strengthen their University's role at the leading-edge of research and innovation, inspiring change across the world and in our region.

Schemes of Service: Research Division: Food, Chemical and Biotechnology Employment Type: Fixed Term Research Fellow / Engineer (Insect Protein Chemistry & Functional Beverage Development) As a University of Applied Learning, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) works closely with industry partners to deliver translational, impact-driven research. This role supports an awarded applied research project on cricket protein (CP)-based functional beverages, focusing on protein chemistry, emulsion engineering, scalable food processing, and consumer acceptance. The appointee will contribute to SIT's sustainable food innovation agenda, working within a multidisciplinary team with access to established research platforms and pilot-scale facilities. Key Responsibilities Characterise insect protein and their hydrolysates for compositional and techno-functional properties under different processing conditions (enzymatic hydrolysis, heating, drying, homogenization) Investigate the impact of food processing on protein-polysaccharide interactions under different food processing conditions. Profile phenolic compound and evaluate the bio-functional properties such as antioxidant activity Identify optimal processing conditions that minimise bioactive losses for functional beverage applications. Design and formulate insect protein-based oil-in-water emulsions for the encapsulation and delivery of bioactives. Develop and optimise functional beverage prototypes that are suitable for industry-scale beverage manufacturing and evaluate their emulsion stability and estimated shelf-life. Conduct in vitro bioaccessibility and bioavailability studies for encapsulated nutrients using existing SIT analytical facilities. Support the design and execution of consumer surveys assessing Singapore consumers' acceptance of foods and beverages. Perform principal component analysis (PCA) and multivariate statistics to identify relationships between demographic factors and product acceptance and integrate findings as feedback for beverage formulation. Prepare scientific manuscripts, technical reports, and progress updates for funding agencies, journals, and stakeholders. Present findings at project meetings, industry engagements, and academic conferences. Supervise and mentor junior researchers, research assistants, and students attached to the project. The candidate is to communicate with all relevant internal and external stakeholders as required to meet the project deliverables. Any other adhoc duties assigned by supervisor. Job Requirements PhD in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Chemistry, Chemistry, Nutrition, or a closely related discipline. Strong master's or bachelor's degree holders with substantial relevant research experience may be considered for the Engineer grade. Solid grounding in protein chemistry, protein hydrolysis, and structure–function relationships in food systems. Hands-on experience in emulsion formulation and stability characterisation, including droplet size analysis and shelf-life assessment. Familiarity with food processing technologies such as HTST, UHT pasteurisation, drying, heating, and high-pressure or multi-stage homogenisation in beverage or liquid food systems. Working knowledge of biochemical and antioxidant assay methods, HPLC, MS, and their application in food ingredient analysis. Experience with in vitro digestion models and bioaccessibility or bioavailability testing is a strong advantage. Ability to perform quantitative data analysis and multivariate statistics (e.g., PCA); proficiency in Origin, R, or equivalent software for statistical analysis. Strong scientific writing skills with the ability to produce publication-quality manuscripts and clear technical reports. Proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple experimental and reporting workstreams simultaneously. Collaborative and able to work independently within a multidisciplinary applied research environment.
