Description Jaime Napier’s Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a Post-Doctoral Associate to conduct globally-conscious research on gender-related attitudes, gender stereotypes, and/or attitudes and beliefs about sexual orientation. Terms of employment include competitive salary and benefits. Research in our lab focuses on the social and psychological antecedents and consequences of inequality, broadly defined. The ideal candidate for the current position will have a strong background in research on gender and sexual orientation. Some potential projects include: (1) understanding backlash against gender equality and queer rights; (2) understanding the content and structure of gender stereotypes and their consequences; and (3) examining patterns of gender-related attitudes over time and cross-nationally. The position entails involvement in all stages of research, including (but not limited to) study design, data collection, data analysis, manuscript preparation. Candidates must hold a PhD in social psychology or a closely related field, with no more than five years post receipt of the PhD, be competent in research design and advanced statistical analyses, and have strong writing and communication skills. The Department of Energy and Mechanical Engineering at the Aalto University School of Engineering invites applications for Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Ship Hydrodynamics (tenure track) Aalto University Department of Energy and Mechanical Engineering is a community of around 300 staff members – including 30 tenure track professors – assembled to research, teach, create, and develop solutions for society’s needs. We are now looking for a professor to lead ship hydrodynamics field at Aalto University’s Marine and Arctic Technology group. In this position you will have a chance to make an impact by changing the way the field is defined in terms of research and education in the era of increasing computational resources and data, sustainability goals, and design of previously unseen ship and ship system concepts. The research within the position focuses especially on understanding, predicting, and controlling the complex, unsteady dynamic phenomena and hydrodynamic forces associated with the interactions of ships with the ocean environment. The position will contribute to hydrodynamics which equips our graduates for the future marine engineering paradigms, such as climate change and green transition. This position belongs to Aalto University’s tenure track career system and will be filled to either assistant, associate or full professor level depending on the chosen candidate (tenure track evaluation criteria). Your role and goals  Your role will be to develop and share expertise on understanding and managing ship motions and loads in real operating conditions throughout the lifecycle of a ship. This is essential for safer, more energy-efficient ships: Current design practices often rely on simplified assumptions that misrepresent the lifetime environmental loads, which affects the performance, structural safety, energy system sizing, and operability of the ship. Ideally, your research will integrate experiments, theory, and simulation in a physics-first manner, directly informing ship design and operations. We expect you to: Advance research to improve the prediction and performance of calm-water resistance, hydrodynamic loads, motions, and added resistance, using targeted experiments, full-scale operational data, and both high-fidelity and reduced-order models. Build a team and secure research in the field of hydrodynamics by acquiring relevant resources from various sources for applied and fundamental research (such as Research Council of Finland, Business Finland, Horizon Europe). Teach on marine hydrostatics and hydrodynamics in ways that connect theory with model- and full-scale experiments and numerical methods for seakeeping, wave loads, and added resistance, while embedding themes of climate adaptation, decarbonization and ship design. Teaching will also cover participation to B.Sc. and M.Sc. level courses and thesis supervision at all levels. Commit to the Aalto Ice and Wave Tank and conduct research and teaching in this internationally unique facility. Your experience and ambitions The candidate is expected to build a versatile team that advances fundamental understanding, theoretical and numerical approaches, and the use of applied methods in ship hydrodynamics by combining model- and full-scale data. They should be able to teach foundational and state-of-the-art approaches and help to grow the hydrodynamics ecosystem of Aalto in collaboration with industry, authorities, and international partners. Candidates must hold a D.Sc. or PhD and have a successful postdoctoral or equivalent research or industrial track record. The Role and the Department Senior Project Manager (Research Professional Futures) The Senior Project Manager (Research Professional Futures) will lead and coordinate the delivery of the Research Professional Futures (RPF) project, funded by the Research England Development Fund (£4.5m). The postholder will manage all aspects of the project from inception to completion, ensuring delivery of strategic objectives. This includes oversight of resources, budget, people, and partnerships. Responsibilities will include; Lead the operational delivery of the RPF project, including development and implementation of the project initiation document and delivery plan, ensuring alignment with the project outcomes, delivery of milestones, risks and mitigations and funder expectations. Manage project governance, including coordination of the Commission, governance bodies, and reporting structures. Manage delivery of work packages including research, pilot interventions, competency framework development, and digital platform implementation. Provide robust financial management, procuring services and goods in line with financial regulations, liaising with post award finance to manage any budget variance and reporting to the project board and funding body. Monitor project progress against KPIs and milestones, prepare reports for funders and senior stakeholders, and manage risk and compliance. Coordinate the onboarding of project staff and contributors. Lead management of the commissioning of pilot projects, including application processes, evaluation, and reporting. Develop and implement stakeholder engagement strategies, working closely with the Community Engagement Manager and Commission members to ensure inclusive participation across RP and academic communities. Support the integration of AI tools and approaches across project activities, liaising with consultants and technical partners to ensure ethical and effective use. Provide day to day line management for the assistant administrator, setting clear objectives and reviewing performance, supporting development through the Personal Development and Performance Review (PDPR) process. Represent the project internally and externally, acting as a key point of contact for partners, funders, and sector bodies. Manage internal and external communications, working closely with the collective leadership team, Commission membership, and external communications and marketing agencies Support event logistics and delivery, with content led by the Community Engagement Manager. Represent the project at sector events and conferences and participate in relevant external professional networks and sector bodies The post will support the wider RPF team, across different institutions, and will be based in Research and Innovation Services at Durham University. Research and Innovation Services (RIS) provides guidance, expert advice and hands-on support for all aspects of research and research-related work, including securing funding, working with partners, undertaking knowledge exchange, demonstrating impact, commercialising outputs, ensuring good research practice and supporting professional development. The base location for this role is Boldon House, our exciting new professional services hub. Boldon House is situated on the outskirts of Durham near the Arnison Centre in Pity Me. Boldon House brings a number of professional services teams together in a vibrant office environment which supports collaborative working and is designed to embrace hybrid working.
